Hours of working worth an ounce of scrap gold

I used to work in a goldmine in Australia. My name is Bryan and this is the story of how I got kicked out of my working place for organizing protests and strikes. It was 1997 when I began to work at the mine, I was one of a few English-speaking workers, thanks to what my wage was a bit higher than that of my African colleagues. Normal nine-to-five job and weeks of painstaking work for a couple of dollars was slowly beginning to get on my nerves. Especially as I was well informed about the current price of gold and cash for gold stakes because my close friend was running a store. He often told me about his cash for gold trades and informed me about the number of people coming everyday to his office asking to convert the scrap gold into cash. To my astonishment, one day he decided to go into details and told me how much a single ounce of scrap gold is worth. I still hear the number 1000 bouncing around between my ears inside the head. I couldn"t believe that a single ounce of scrap gold is worth so many hours of my extremely hard work! That was enough. I felt the need to change something and negotiate higher salaries from the management. All I negotiated for myself though, was a place at the job office. I got fired after organizing the first major strike after two minor protests of workers.
